Journey through Turbulent Times by H J Dora, his third book, traces his life and career spanning 40 years in the Police Department. The book focuses on his long tenure as Director General of Police of the undivided Andhra Pradesh State, during which time he helped the State tackle the Nasal movement which was then at its peak. The book reveals how the moral and spiritual influence of his mother, reinforced and elevated by his close association with Sri Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, helped him both in his personal and professional life. He always held the welfare of his officers and especially of his men as his foremost concern throughout his career. This can be a guide to many embarking on a career to achieve goals without compromising on ones ideals. H J Dora hails from Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. After completing his Masters in Economics from Andhra University in Vishakhapatnam, he joined the Indian Police Service in 1965. A highly decorated officer with a distinguished career in the Police Department, he held important positions heading the State Intelligence, Crime Investigation Department and the Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad under different political dispensations. He was promoted as the Director General of Police for the State in 1996. In 2002 he went on deputation as Director General of Police to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in New Delhi. His last assignment for the Government of India was as the Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission. Post his retirement, the author is now settled in Hyderabad and as the Convener of Sri Sathya Sai Trust, spends his time in its numerous service related activities.
