A collection of 28 prose poems which provides timeless spiritual wisdom on a range of subjects and the mystery of life.
The work begins with the prophet Almustafa preparing to leave the city of Orphalese, where he has lived for twelve years in exile, to return to his home island. When he is about to board a ship which will carry him home, a few people of the city gather around him with whom he discusses the great themes of human life: love, marriage, children, giving, eating and drinking, and many others, concluding with death. Almustafa speaks of each of the subjects in twenty-eight short chapters.
